Our Mammy’s shares the stories of Louisiana’s African Americans through the lens of the founder’s ancestors—what they contributed, how they survived, why it’s important—so that future generations can understand what was sacrificed and be inspired by all the ancestors have accomplished in the face of adversity.
Our Mammy’s was founded in 2013, to preserve and honor the untold stories of African Americans—especially the domestic workers, caregivers, and laborers whose lives shaped our communities. Through genealogy, storytelling, and first-person interpretation, we bring our ancestors stories to life and help others connect personally to their past. Our mission is to make African American history visible, valued, and unforgettable.

"Gaynell, you gave a magnificent talk and PowerPoint presentation before the Algiers Historical Society (AHS) meeting audience on Feb. 25, 2023. It was informative, engaging and at times humorous. Your delivery and mixture of the three were spot on. The appropriate period accouterments you wore just added to the authenticity of your presentation. Thank you and keep up the great work."
