"Our Mammy’s is the standard when it comes to explicitly teaching African American History. Our Mammy’s have been intentionally and strategically teaching our scholars our history for the past 5 years!
We’re forever grateful at Thrive and GWC for Our Mammy’s! "

George Washington Carver High School & Thrive
Our Mammy's was established to offer a meaningful history and genealogy experience for both adults and children, with a focus on the historical and cultural contributions of Louisiana’s African American men, women, and children from the 19th and 20th centuries.
While our programs integrate arts, crafts, English, math, and science, our primary emphasis is on history and genealogy. Staffed by a National Association of Interpreters Interpretive Guide with degrees in History and Museum Studies and over 15 years of experience in the museum industry, we ensure a rich and comprehensive educational experience. Guided by our motto, "Encounter. Construct. Learn," we plan all activities for students of all ages.
